ELKE SELTER, Senior Advisor

Elke Selter is specialised in heritage and crisis response, with over 15 years of professional experience working in fragile states, crisis and conflict situations with different UN agencies (UNDP, UNESCO and UNOPS).

Elke Selter has been involved with emergency program design and delivery in, amongst others, Bosnia, Palestine, Haiti, South Sudan, Burundi and Mali, in cooperation with humanitarian agencies and peacekeeping missions. In recent years, she has advised UNESCO on the creation of its emergency programme, policy and rapid response capacity.

In addition to providing consultancy, Elke Selter is currently a researcher on the international politics of heritage in conflicts (Political Science and International Relations) at SOAS, University of London. Her research focus includes the actions and priorities of international humanitarian organisations and the UN Security Council in regard to heritage, and the intersection of heritage norms with international justice. She holds an MA in Art History and an MA in Heritage Conservation from the University of Leuven, Belgium.
